An SR-22 is a certificate of insurance or financial responsibility filing that proves you have insurance that meets your state’s minimum coverage requirements. Often referred to as a SR-22/bond in the state of Ohio, this certificate is required by the Ohio BMV (bureau of motor vehicles) for “high-risk” insurance policies and only covers the individual named on the policy.
You may need an SR-22 bond to reinstate or maintain your driving privileges after certain traffic-related offenses.
Reasons you may need an SR-22:
- to reinstate a suspended or revoked license
- being caught driving without insurance or a drivers license
- having an at-fault accident and no car insurance
- too many tickets or repeat traffic violations within a short period of time
- DWI or DUI or other serious moving violation
